Danny,
Difficult question to answer correctly. I suggest you go to a good
search engine like google pull up goniometer, the instrument used to measure
contact angle and the end of the page find Rame hart the original experts. When
I contact them they have a list of technical papers on contact angles that is
impressive. My company manufactures equipment that alters contact angle. If
you take one of the surfaces you asked about, Silicon, we specialize in this.
For example silicon is hydrophobic an angle of greater than 45 degrees. Water
rolls of the surface. As soon as an oxide forms the contact angle changes.
Silicon dioxide has an angle of about 22 degrees. Examples of possible changes.
Plasma with an inerts gas drives the contact angle down towards zero. Typically
below 5. Treatment with silanes drives the contact angle up to over 100 degrees
if required. One of out specialty is the treatment of silicon wafers with a
silane to produce a contact angle of 75 degrees. This produces a perfect
surface tension match with positive photo resist and improves resist adhesion.
We have over 1500 units in the field for this application, so we can probably
help you.contact me direct for further technical help or visit our web site

Subject: [mems-talk] Contact angle between water and silicon or silica
Dear Members,
Does anyone know the contact angle between water and silicon or silica? Can
anyone recommend a good website where this data could be found ?
Has anyone ever dealt with interactions between surfactants solutions and
silicon or silica?
Thank you in advance,
Danny Klein
