Pan,
score the backside of your PDMS device perpendicular to the channel with a
sharp scalpel blade (not all the way through otherwise you will have scalpel
cutting marks) then gently bend over to split at the score mark - you should
get a nice clean cut without scalpel marks at your area of interest to SEM -
you have to be careful when coating with gold for SEMs, the gold often
flakes off due to the flexible of PDMS
hope this helps,
Paul

Subject: [mems-talk] PDMS by SEM
Dear all,
I have made the PDMS microfluidic channel and want to see the cross-
section of the channel by using SEM. However, it seems that I need to cut
a very shrap surface of my interest. Is it required? I would like to know
if any one has some experience on it. Your suggestions will be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Pan Mao
