COD. Catastrophic optical damage? Are talking about laser diodes?

I was wondering if anyone had any information about the contribution of a
polycrystalline alumina polishing slurry towards COD. We've seen that
relative to a colloidal silica for example, the alumina slurry leads to a
very high COD, and don't quite understand this. Any information would be
great, cheers.
