Dear Joseph,
  Regarding coupling light into thin films from fiber, what you can do is use
side polished fiber coupler half block then deposit the film over the polished
block and couple light into it using Prism coupling method. This is what i'm
doing presently and it is working for me.
  By the way what kind of film you are using, wether that film can be deposited
over the side polished fiber is a question that need to be thought over.
