We use a copper crucible for Ni. Ni tends to crack crucibles quite a bit
due to thermal expansion and contraction. The copper takes this without
cracking, just be sure to use a tighter beam as to not melt the copper.
This method works great for us.

I am using E-beam to evaporate Ni. The crucible is
made of tungsten. But it seemed that fused Ni could
"eat" tungsten. I wonder whether they have formed some
kind of alloys. Should I replace the tungsten crucible
by other metals, such as molybdenum?
