Dry environment is absolutely necessary. The key to making good SAMs is
in having hydrophilic sample surface but no water in solution. Otherwise
you will end up with a lot of FDTS conglomerates in solution that will
precipitate on your sample.

Subject: [mems-talk] Is dry N2 environment necessary for FDTS coating?
Dear colleagues:
Could anyone confirm whether the dry N2 environment is necessary in
preparing FDTS mixture and during dip-in coating? I found different
procedures about the SAM coating. Thank you very much.
