Hydrophilic or hydrophobic surfaces

Well, I am interested in creating hydrophobic thin
film coatings. After doing some literature search I
found that Fluorination using plasma of C2F2 gas can
create hydrophobic surfaces which will repel water
molecules. I am not familiar with this technolog so I
am not really sure how to proceed.
Once I deposit coating of let's say ZrN, then is there
a way I can make it hydrophobic. usually angle of
contact and surface free energy is used as a
characgerization tool for hydrophobic or hydrophilic
surfaces. Thanks

Gary
