Dear members:
I am conducting MEMS research and I was wondering if someone would be
willing to do all the work for me. It is very important that I get this
work done immediately, as I would like to graduate and secure a position
in upper management so that I can continue to have others do my work.
Seriously, I think of MEMS research as an advanced engineering field.
It follows that one could expect advanced researchers and advanced
research techniques. However, I continue to see postings asking for
simple things. Here is an example:
"Anyone can find the following papers for me? They are
quite important to my research project. Thanks a lot
in advance!"
The author even gives all of the bibliographic information in his/her
posting! Now, I find it very hard to believe that this person has the
capability to conduct MEMS research but does not have access to
a........LIBRARY. Furthermore, if he/she has email access, then he/she
probably also has internet access (even just text based), and there are
plenty of document location services available online.
That said, there have been a few very useful and provoking posts (which
I would like to see more of). The concept of this group is good and I
appreciate ISI taking the time and server space to host it. However, I
just wanted to share my (and some of my colleges) perspective by making
the following comment:
Members of this group are researchers, do some research! I get the
distinct impression that many members of this group are, for lack of a
better word, lazy. Most of the questions posted can be answered with
ONE trip to the library. You know, the place where they store all that
useless information.
In closing, I would just like to remind everyone that volunteers for the
above mentioned position are welcome to apply. Please send all
applications to /dev/null.
Finally, I reserve the right not to defend my position, as it is only an
opinion and is not meant to offend anyone associated with this group.
Thanks,
Simon Templar
