Lakshmi,
To treat Gold to make photo resist stick better to it is common to treat
it in a vacuum vapor primer which vacuum dehdrates the gold then allows a silane
vapor to react with the gold. The most common silane for use with Silicon and
Aluminum is HexaMethylDiSilazane,(HMDS). This reacts with the surface and makes
it more and more Hydrophobic. I think when working with Gold it is more common
to use a MercaptoSilane but HMDS should work with a long time, think 1 hour in
the HMDS vapor. I have no experience with Gold that has been acid treated but
it should work fine. One point is that HMDS treated surfaces become hydrophobic
and stay Hydrophobic for weeks, so if you want to test this reaction I could
treat samples for you here and mail them back with a high level of confidence of
success. Let me know if I can help. Bill Moffat

Subject: [mems-talk] hydrophobic gold

I am looking for a chemical that would make gold hydrophobic. For example when
gold is in contact
with strong acids it turns hydrophilic. Is there a way to reverse this? Any help
is greatly
appreciated.
